Bad weather disrupts air cargo on both sides of the Atlantic

BAD weather in recent days has caused disruption to transatlantic air cargo at American and European airports, reports London's Air Cargo News.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport was forced to close for a day when a powerful storm hit while airports in the southeast of the US also continue to be affected.

Schiphol Airport re-opened, but it was expecting a busy time as its worked to catch up after the mass cancellations.

In the US, air cargo continued to face disruption. FedEx said that it faced trouble at its Memphis and Indianapolis hubs due to severe weather and low temperatures.

"Potential delays are possible for package deliveries across the US. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our team members, as well as providing the highest level of service to our customers. Please continue to check fedex.com for updates," it said.

UPS said that it would continue to monitor the impact of the severe winter weather that moved through Texas, the mid-Atlantic and southern US.

Also, Delta Cargo placed an embargo on certain types of shipment at Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, although the restrictions at Atlanta were lifted by the end of the day.

Delta said trucking operations were being affected by the weather and this could result in shipments being delayed.
