Two badly burned in tanker fire at anchor north of Mumbai
THE Indian Coast Guard (ICG) contained a fire aboard 46,145-dwt Indian-flagged product tanker Genessa last week at the Kandla anchorage, Gulf of Kutch, 320 miles north of Mumbai, rescuing the 26-man crew, two of whom suffered from severe burns.
Ocean water samples showed no signs of an oil spill after the ICG testing, reported London's Tanker Operator.
ICS suspects the fire started in the vessel's accommodation area or in the engine room. The ship was said to be carrying 30,000 tonnes of diesel fuel and was said to be managed by Seven Islands Shipping.
