DP World Sokhna handles 13,000 TEU PIL ship deployed on Red Sea service

EGYPT-based DP World Sokhna has successfully received the "M/V Kota Pekarang", one of the largest containerships owned by Pacific International Lines (PIL). The ship is deployed on the Red Sea Service (RSS) from Xingang, China.

The ship is one of three 12,000 TEU containerships PIL has added to its weekly service to DP World Sokhna port. The RSS service is operated by seven vessels in total, said TradeArabia News Service.

DP World Sokhna CEO Ajay Singh was quoted as saying: "We are proud to receive the largest PIL vessel to arrive here, which confirms our ability to handle ships of all shapes and sizes.

"This landmark event also confirms to development of the port and increasing trade in the local economy, which bodes well for future trade in the country and the shipping routes we serve," he said.

"We look forward to receiving others in future in support of global trade, especially on the maritime routes that DP World serves," he added.

Situated at the heart of the important east-west trade route close to the southern entrance to the Suez Canal, DP World Sokhna is strategically located to handle cargo transiting through one of the world's busiest commercial waterways.
