Delta Cargo's cargo traffic rises 8.6pc in 2017 on 9pc revenue growth
DELTA Cargo achieved overall cargo traffic growth of 8.6 per cent in 2017, after clocking up 2.1 billion cargo tonne miles (CTM). Fourth quarter traffic alone rose by 7.1 per cent year on year to 542 million CTM.
The strong performance comes despite interruptions to operations caused by bad weather conditions and a power outage at its Atlanta hub, London's Air Cargo News reported.
The increase in traffic for 2017 reverses two years of traffic declines, but total CTM has yet to catch up with the level recorded in 2014.
The traffic growth and improving yields in the fourth quarter helped push up overall cargo revenues for 2017 by 9.1 per cent compared with a year earlier to US$729 million. Fourth quarter revenues increased by 14.4 per cent year on year to $200 million.
Highlights over the year include the carrier expanding its pharma handling capabilities and the opening of a new cargo control centre.
