Finnair pushes ahead with growth plans and opens Lyon route
FINNAIR has announced that it will open a new route to Lyon, France over the 2018/2019 winter season. Starting from December 11, the carrier will operate two weekly flights to Lyon from its Helsinki hub using an E90 aircraft. From Lyon, the carrier offers connections to its Asian network.
Continuing with its growth strategy, Finnair will take delivery of its twelfth A350 aircraft in 2018, enabling it to add several frequencies to its popular long-haul destinations, including Osaka, Hong Kong, Delhi and Phuket.
The airline said its route to Osaka will become daily during the winter season with two additional frequencies on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Two additional frequencies will also be added to the Hong Kong route on Fridays and Sundays, for a total of 12 weekly frequencies.
The carrier's route to Delhi will become a daily destination during the winter season with the addition of a flight on Wednesdays. A fourth weekly frequency will also be added to the Phuket route on Mondays starting as of December 10.
In addition, the schedule for Finnair's flight to Miami will be modified so that it aligns better with the airline's other North American departures and its connecting flights to Europe.
Additional short-haul frequencies will also be added to popular Finnair destinations in Europe during the winter season. An additional weekly frequency will be added to Malaga, Funchal and Tenerife, two weekly frequencies will be added to both Rome and Gran Canaria, and a daily flight on weekdays will be added to Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland.
Furthermore, Finnair will continue its non-stop flights to Lapland from London Gatwick, Paris and Zurich.
Finnair will also extend the operating period on some of its existing routes. Malta and Antalya will operate from the 2018 summer season until December 9. The routes to Edinburgh and Alanya-Gazipasa will also be extended to cover the winter season, making them year-round destinations for Finnair.
"Finnair is currently in the largest expansion phase of its history and we are pressing forward by growing our capacity to popular destinations in Asia and Europe," said chief commercial officer at Juha Jarvinen. "These added frequencies will offer our customers more choice and flexibility for their winter plans."
