US customs given more screening devices to combat illegal drug smuggling
US President Donald Trump has recently signed the International Narcotics Trafficking Emergency Response by Detecting Incoming Contraband with Technology (INTERDICT) Act into law.
The new law requires US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to increase the number of chemical screening devices available to officers in order to seize opioids illegally imported into the country, the White House announced.
The House voted to pass the bill on October 24, 2017, and the Senate used an expedited consideration procedure to pass the legislation on December 21, 2017, American Shipper reported.
