Technava introduces lubricant blending-on-board system in Greece, Cyprus
MAERSK Fluid Technology (MFT) has teamed up with Technava to roll out the patented SEA-Mate lubricant blending-on-board (BOB) system in Greece and Cyprus.
Piraeus-based Technava has started to promote MFT's SEA-Mate BOB system as the official sales agent for the technology in these two countries.
Originally developed by Maersk for its fleet of containerships, MFT's BOB technology allows for the blending of the in-use system oil, as a base oil, with a high base number (BN) cylinder oil product to create a cylinder lubricant and facilitate the addition of fresh system oil to the engine sump, London's Tanker Operator reported.
With BOB units on board, ship operators can blend cylinder lubricant compositions that match engine operating conditions and fuel sulphur levels. The technology can reduce cylinder oil consumption and alleviate cold corrosion and cylinder wear. It can also mitigate issues associated with worn system oil causing problems for the hydraulic control system in electronic 2-stroke engines, the company said.
The SEA-Mate BOB system has obtained letters of no objection from MAN Diesel & Turbo and Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) engines and is suitable for use on all types of 2-stroke engines.
Technava is a supplier of marine equipment and provider of technical support to the Greek and Cypriot shipping industry. The company also acts as the representative for 2-stroke gas and diesel engine developer WinGD in Greece and Cyprus.
"We believe that introducing our blending-on-board technology jointly with Technava will bring great technical and financial value to the Greek and Cypriot marine industry," said Maersk Fluid Technology managing director Jens Byrgesen.
"We represent first class manufacturers with strong brand names and highly reliable products, so we are proud to welcome the MFT SEA-Mate BOB system into our portfolio of products," added Technava projects' engineer Andreas Angelidis.
