Ultra Large Container Ship lost some 40 containers
Ultra Large Container Ship MSC ELOANE at night Jan 5 reported to MRCC Spain loss of 30 – 45 containers, which went overboard some 40 nm off Galician coast, Spain, Atlantic coastline. Containers were lost in rough weather, heavy seas prevent rescuers from attempts to recover containers, some of which may already sink. Officials said lost containers don’t have any hazardous cargoes, so containers are danger to shipping as floating object, no environmental danger. The ship is en route from Rotterdam to Tangier, at the time of an accident she was proceeding at reduced speed, understood encountering heavy seas.
