Emirates SkyCargo volumes reach new high of 2.5 million tonnes in 2017
EMIRATES SkyCargo flew a record 2.5 million tonnes of freight across its global network in 2017 on the back of strong pharma volume growth.
Airline president Tim Clark said that in spite of challenging market conditions the carrier had successfully implemented initiatives to increase revenues and lower costs and deployed new technologies "to make our business and operations more agile", reported New York's Air Cargo World.
The Dubai-based carrier's freight arm, SkyCargo, continued its expansion of specialised transport solutions for vertical industries, including pharmaceuticals, following extensive investments that included a new temperature controlled facility at Dubai World Centre (DWC) airport.
With the introduction of Emirates Pharma, the carrier has achieved 38 per cent growth in pharmaceutical cargo volumes since the service's launch. The carrier has gained Good Distribution Practices (GDP) certification for pharma handling.
Saud Emirates SkyCargo vice president Henrik Ambak: "GDP is an EU regulatory framework for logistics underpinning GMP [good manufacturing practice] for the manufacturing of pharma."
Mr Ambak added that the airline has, "to plan to add CEIV", since the carrier's customers have responded positively to the new pharma handling service and Emirates' GDP certified pharma lanes.
Mr Clark added that Emirates was entering the new year with "optimism and an unflagging drive to keep raising the bar in terms of customer experience and business performance".
