IT must do better than Atlanta did as there are more breakdowns ahead
WIDESPREAD adoption of emerging technologies in aviation could avoid the massive disruption experienced at Atlanta airport after the big power outage there.
"The biggest threat airlines face is the ability to handle flight disruptions, rather than disruption itself," said Mumbai-based Intelenet Global Services CEO Bhupender Singh.
"But automating back-end systems enables airlines to be more proactive when IT outages occur, enhancing the speed and accuracy of compensation for passengers,"he said, reported New York's Air Cargo World.
According to Mr Singh, automation and artificial intelligence have the potential to improve the way companies respond to flight disruptions, especially during high-profile interruptions that require effective customer service options.
The type of outage suffered at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) was caused by a small electrical fire that knocked out primary and backup systems.
With greater digitisation and reliance on IT systems, there can only be more errors and power cuts, which enhances the necessity for quick responses from IT companies, he said.
