Street's alive with talk: Will Amazon or Home Depot buy XPO?

ATLANTA's Home Depot and Amazon.com are reportedly making bids for Greenwich, Connecticut-based XPO Logistics, reports the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Last February, Home Depot let it be known to the Wall Street Journal it would end its home delivery service by contracting into to a logistics operator. Little did anyone suspect that it might buy the logistics firm it hired.

But neither Home Depot nor Amazon have stated their intentions, or detailed any discussions with the logistics company.

Both companies work with XPO to deliver large appliances and furniture like refrigerators, stoves and couches.

"Amazon could make a competing bid for XPO as it looks to maintain its stranglehold over last-mile delivery," writes TheStreet.

"Amazon has already built up a massive fulfilment and logistics network, but acquiring XPO could give it a leg up in another segment of the delivery market, according to analysts."

As of the end of 2016, XPO served more than 50,000 customers and operated with over 87,000 employees and 1,425 locations in 34 countries.

XPO bills itself as, "the largest provider of last-mile delivery." The company offers a wide range of logistics and freight transport services, including home delivery of items such as furniture and appliances.
