Jacksonville's JAXPORT volume up 19pc to 204,492 TEU in FY2018
JAXPORT in Jacksonville handled 204,492 TEU in the first two months of its 2018 fiscal year that runs from October through September, compared to 165,571 TEU during the same period in FY2017.
Asian container volumes rose by 13 per cent over the reporting period, with throughput reaching 65,227 TEU. Over the past five years, JAXPORT has recorded an average of 21 per cent annual growth in Asian container volumes.
Puerto Rican volumes increased 40 per cent to 125,537 TEU. As the top Puerto Rican trading partner, JAXPORT were tops at supplying relief to victims of Hurricane Maria last September.
The port also registered double-digit growth in vessel calls and total tonnage, each up 19 per cent.
A federal project to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel to 47 feet to accommodate larger vessels is scheduled to begin in early 2018.
