Moscow airport's Jan-Nov cargo traffic surges 30pc to 260,000 tonnes
MOSCOW's Sheremetyevo airport, Russia's largest cargo hub, handled 260,000 tonnes of cargo in the first 11 months of 2017, representing a year-on-year increase of 30 per cent driven by a significant increase in cargo transported on international flights.
From January to November the volume of international freight handled by the Moscow Cargo terminal rose by 60.8 per cent over 2016, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Overall, the airport's cargo exports were up 80 per cent, imports rose 44 per cent, while domestic cargo volume declined by 2.95 per cent during the reporting period.
The volume of mail processed at Sheremetyevo grew by 42.4 per cent to reach 30,000 tonnes over the first 11 months of 2017.
The most popular international routes, accounting for half of total air freight traffic, were China, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France and the US.
The largest increase in outbound and transit freight traffic was registered on the routes to Zhengzhou, New York, London Heathrow and Seoul.
"The most impressive growth of inbound and transit freight traffic was seen on the routes from Delhi, Oslo, Hanoi, Brussels," the airport added.
The busiest destinations for domestic cargo flows remained Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
