Nippon Express opens second office in Africa within 4 months
JAPANESE international freight forwarder Nippon Express has opened a new branch in Casablanca, Morocco, as the country aims to become a logistics hub for north and west Africa with its Tangier-Med container port.
The Casablanca branch office has been established four months after the company first entered the African market by setting up a branch office in Nairobi, Kenya in east Africa, reported IHS Media.
The move comes amid a rising interest in the African market among Japanese manufacturing companies and logistics service providers. Indeed, Morocco has been aggressively attracting foreign firms through its special economic zone system, and many Japanese auto parts manufacturers have already set up operations there, reported IHS Media.
Morocco's agreement to return to the African Union in January is expected to further deepen Morocco's economic links to other African countries as well as European countries, Nippon Express said.
Nippon Express, which has one of the world's largest global logistics networks, is believed to have earlier undertaken Africa-related transportation and logistics services through its German subsidiary supervising its European operations.
