Works underway at Hong Kong's Causeway Bay typhoon shelter until January 5

MARINE works are being carried out inside the Causeway Bay typhoon shelter in Hong Kong that involve trimming and backfilling operations. The marine works last one month, according to a Marine Department notice issued last week.

The works are being conducted within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (E):

(A) 22 degrees 17.139'north/114 degrees 11.170'east; (B) 22 deg. 17.117'N/114 deg. 11.188'E; (C) 22 deg. 17.055'N/114 deg. 11.079'E; (D) 22 deg. 17.092'N / 114 deg. 11.092'E; and (E) 22 deg. 17.114'N / 114 deg. 11.132'E.

The works are being carried out by a flotilla of vessels including five dumb lighters, two tugboats and two guard boats. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements. A working area of 15 metres around each lighter has been established.

Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights have been laid out to mark the positions of the anchors.

The marine works are being performed from 0700 to 2300 hours, and the vessels employed for the works will stay in the area until the work is completed. These vessels will display signals in line with international and local regulations.
