Port of NY/NJ box volume up 9.2pc in October to 588,848 TEU
THE Port of New York and New Jersey on the US east coast handled 588,848 TEU in October 2017, up 9.2 per cent year on year.
Year to date, total container volume rose 7.2 per cent to 3.2 million units, up from the 2.9 million handled in the first 10 months of 2016, reported American Shipper.
In October import loads grew 5.8 per cent year on year to 305,729 TEU, while export loads rose 1.3 per cent to 121,203 TEU.
Year to date, export loads were up 3.2 per cent year on year to 1.1 million TEU, and import loads were up 6.4 per cent at 2.8 million TEU.
Export empties surged 24.9 per cent in October and 14.6 per cent in the first 10 months of the year, while import empties decreased 16.3 per cent in October and 18.8 per cent from January to October.
Rail volumes hit a record of 51,206 containers in October, while in first 10 months of the year, rail lifts were up 3.8 per cent.
Auto volumes rose 12.4 per cent year on year in October to 51,135 units, and were up 24.4 per cent year to date at 515,323 vehicles handled.
