Airport security man arrested at Mumbai airport for fake terror note

POLICE have arrested an employee of a company that provides security to the Air Cargo Sankul at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport for allegedly planting a note inside a toilet at the cargo complex that warned of a looming ISIS 'terror attack' on January 26 2018.

Akshay Shankar Gaikar, 24, who worked for Security and Intelligence Service (SIS India), said he found the fake terror note and was first person to report the note to airport officials.

Immediately after the note was reported, cargo operations were suspended for some time, while Mumbai Police, Maharashta Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the airport's Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad checked the premises thoroughly, reported the Mumbai Mirror.

Not finding anything, the agencies then started interrogating Mr Gaikar and checked the CCTV footage of the area around the toilet. They found that only Mr Gaikar had visited the toilet.

"We have arrested him and he has been sent to judicial custody by the Bandra court till December 16. When he had visited the toilet (in the footage) he is seen nervous and carrying something in his pocket," a police officer involved in the investigation was quoted as saying.

According to the police, Mr Gaikar planted the fake terror noted because he wanted to see how security agencies work after the threat and security was beefed up.
