Busan-bound MSC mega boxship collides with engineering ship off China
MEGA container ship, the 11,700-TEU MSC Luciana, operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company of France, collided with Chinese engineering ship Su Lian Hai Ji 0018 near Caofeidian in Hebei three days ago.
The collision occured in the Bohai Sea two hours after the MSC Luciana sailed from Tianjin to Busan in South Korea.
The engineering ship suffered severe hull damage after the collision and took on water. Beihai Rescue Bureau sent a rescue boat after receving the distress signal from the ship and managed to tow the vessel to a nearby beach, according to Singapore's Splash 24/7.
All 16 crew onboard the ship have been rescued without injury.
The MSC Luciana suffered minor damage and was brought to anchor at Caofeidian Port.
According to the latest AIS tracking, the ship has set sail again on Wednesday.
