US federal trucking agency shuts down Georgia trucker after fatal collision
THE Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) ordered Keep On Trucking LLC off the road following a fatal accident involving one of the company's co-owners.
The Decatur, Georgia, company was ordered to cease all interstate and intrastate trucking after an investigation found the firm posed an "imminent hazard to public safety", reported American Shipper.
Co-owner Dwight Anthony Preddie was on the I-95 in Virginia driving at 63 MPH when he entered a construction zone, collided into the rear of a Jeep Grand Cherokee moving at five MPH, killing its driver.
Preddie was charged with reckless driving, driving without a licence and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was also in violation of federal hours-of-service regulations.
FMCSA also found the company failing to comply with driver qualification requirements, including ensuring that its drivers were properly licensed and physically qualified to operate a commercial truck.
