BONN-BASED Deutsche Post DHL's third quarter net profit increased 1.7 per cent year on year to EUR669 million (US$777.6 million), drawn on revenues of EUR14.6 billion, up 5.7 per cent.

For the first nine months of 2017 consolidated net profit increased 3.8 per cent year on year to EUR2 billion, drawn on revenues of EUR44.3 billion, an increase of 5.8 per cent.

Postal and e-commerce-parcel revenue totalled EUR4.3 billion for the quarter, rising 6.9 per cent year on year. Express division revenues were EUR3.6 billion, up 8.5 per cent.

Freight forwarding revenue came in at EUR3.5 billion, up 5.1 per cent while air freight forwarding was up eight per cent. Ocean rose 8.5 per cent and supply chain revenues were up 2.3 per cent to EUR3.5 billion.

Deutsche Post DHL in July acquired an 80 per cent of Brazil-based Olimpo Holding SA, along with subsidiaries Polar Transportes and Rio Lopes Transportes for EUR47 million. These companies specialise in temperature-controlled transport for the life sciences and healthcare sectors.

The remaining 20 per cent interest will be acquired over the next two years in 10 per cent increments. "The future results of the company will determine the purchase price for the remaining shares and the payment will be made in several tranches," Deutsche Post DHL said.
