Cosco Shipping Ports signs container freight station deal in Abu Dhabi

COSCO Shipping Ports will lease a container freight station (CFS) at the site of the new CSP Abu Dhabi terminal, which is slated for completion by 2019.

The Cosco port operator has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports to lease a container freight station (CFS) in the Khalifa Industrial Zone at the Port of Fujairah.

"The partnership between Abu Dhabi Ports and Cosco to develop the region's largest container freight station will add a new dimension to UAE/China trade relations," said minister of state and chairman of Abu Dhabi Ports Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.

CSP and Abu Dhabi Ports agreed last year to build a CSP-operated terminal at Khalifa Port and raise the annual container handling capacity at the port to six million TEU.

The terminal will be the first overseas greenfield project fully controlled by COSCO Shipping Ports.

Said China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) deputy director Ning Jizhe: "COSCO Shipping Ports is marching forward. This project bears new fruit for the cooperation of The Belt and Road Initiative between the two countries."
