Science won't do, 'brain washing' needed for climate: Gov Jerry Brown
THOSE still unconvinced of the dangers of global warming should be "brain washed", says California Governor Jerry Brown.
"We need a total brain washing," he said. "We need to wash our brains out and see a very different kind of world.
"At the highest circles, people still don't get it," he told the Sacramento Bee before going to the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Rome.
"It's not just a light rinse" that's required. We need a total brain washing," he said.
Gov Brown said achieving such a transformation will not be easy, recalling his visit to the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia, where world leaders expressed little interest in global warming dangers.
To slow the "devastation of climate change, society cannot rely only on science and technology and must begin to accept the need for more transformational approaches", he said.
"The power here is prophecy," he said. "The power here is faith. So, let's be about it and combine with the technical and the scientific and the political."
Gov Brown said the path to "transformational change" must include the mass mobilisation of the religious and theological sphere, but also the prophetic sphere.
