DHL opens US$10 million global gateway facility at Chicago airport
DHL EXPRESS has opened its 54,000-square foot expansion of its facility at Chicago O'Hare International (ORD) airport as e-commerce continues to drive demand for air cargo capacity.
The $10 million expansion allows on-site US Customs operations.
The expansion is part of O'Hare's northeast cargo campus, which DHL said was on track to become the "largest cargo development built at a US airport in more than a decade," when completed, reported New York's Air Cargo World.
The new facility can process 4,500 pieces per hour, ranging from small parcels to palletised freight. According to DHL, the new facility was necessary to meet anticipated growth in international freight and e-commerce shipments.
