TIACA's new online tool aims to boost visibility and standardisation in air cargo
THE International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has developed a new online Cargo Service Quality (CSQ) tool that is designed to boost visibility and facilitate the adoption of global standards within the air cargo supply chain.
In the initial phase of the pilot programme, TIACA will offer assessment tools for airports and cargo terminal operators. Eventually, the programme will be extended to measure other segments of the air cargo supply chain, reported American Shipper.
The initiative was launched at TIACA's 2017 Executive Summit in Miami and has received the support of leading European and Asian airports, including Hong Kong International Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, New Delhi Airport, Brussels Airport, and Beijing Capital Airport.
Users of the programme will be able to fill out an online Cargo Quality Assessment Form every quarter or every six months and will gain access to gap analyses to help them identify strength and improvement areas, and best practice sharing.
"In my interactions with shippers it has been reaffirmed that the lack of visibility and absence of uniform global standards results in air freight business deals being limited by cost considerations, lack of product improvements, and perceived lack of value for money," head of cargo business at Delhi International Airport, Sanjiv Edward, was quoted as saying.
According to senior vice president of cargo services at SATS Ltd, Cheemeng Wong, the initiative will play a vital role in standardising cargo quality assessment globally, establishing new benchmark parameters, identifying strength and improvement areas, optimising investments, and sharing best practice in the industry.
