KUEHNE + Nagel is expanding its rail network to transport shipments from northern China, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia to locations in Europe. This network expansion comes just six months after the company launched the KN Eurasia Express rail service.
Among the new points of origin is Changchun in northern China, which will now be connected to Hamburg with weekly departures. This route is particularly attractive to customers from the automotive industry.
Also for the first time, the company is offering shipments between Japan and South Korea as well as destinations in Europe as a combined sea and rail service. Yet another new departure is the extension of the KN Eurasia Express service to include Southeast Asian countries that are connected via the company's existing overland transport network in the region.
Kuehne + Nagel is the first logistics provider to offer less-than-container load (LCL) rail shipments between China and Russia via the central terminal in Moscow (Vorsino). As a result, 50 collection points in China will be linked with 20 destination points in Russia.
Transit times to Moscow sum up to a maximum of 24 days, approximately half the time it takes for shipments by sea to arrive. Also, the company offers the first direct link between Xi'an in China and Kouvola in Finland. The transit time takes approximately 14 days.
"KN Eurasia Express is a success story. Delivery times are much faster compared to sea freight, while costs are much lower than air freight, making it an attractive product for our customers," added member of the management board of Kuehne + Nagel International AG responsible for sea freight, Otto Schacht.

Italian police investigate disapperance of Ukrainian master from MSC boxship
ITALIAN police are looking into the disapperance of the 54-year-old Ukranian master of the 11,600 TEU containership MSC Giannina while the vessel was en route from the Italian ports of Gioia Tauro to Genoa.
The crew realised that the master, Juri Kharytonov, was missing when the ship was sailing between the Elba and Corsica islands in the Thyrrenian Sea. They then raised the alarm and police in Genoa were alerted, according to Singapore's Splash 24/7.
When the vessel arrived at the Voltri Terminal Europa at the port of Genoa the investigator placed in charge by the local court initiated legal proceedings and the vessel was arrested.
Each member of the Ukrainian crew were questioned for hours but none of them could give any useful information about the master's disappearance. |
