REGIONAL Container Lines (RCL) has teamed up with Gold Star Line, KMTC, TS Line and SM Line to commence a new container shipping service that links Xingang in China to Pakistan and the Middle East.

Branded the RCL Pakistan Middle East (RPM) service by the Thai shipping line, the port rotation is: Xingang, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Port Klang, Colombo, Karachi, Jebel Ali, Colombo, Port Klang, Singapore, returning to Xingang.

The service's maiden voyage is scheduled to depart on November 17 from Xingang, operated by a Gold Star vessel. It will be followed by vessels from KMTC, SM Line, TS Line, Gold Star Line and RCL in that order. A total of six vessels, ranging in size from 5,000-6,500 TEU, will be deployed on the service, reported Seatrade Maritime News of Colchester, UK.

RCL's executive vice president of business, Charlie Chu, was quoted as saying: "The RPM will allow more completeness to RCL's pan-Asia strategy in providing a comprehensive suite of shipping services to our customers who seek a strong Asia presence."
