Box volume at JNPT rises 6pc YoY to 2.4m TEU from April-September
INDIA's largest container port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), recorded in the first six months of the current financial year a 6.26 per cent increase in container throughput to 2.4 million TEU, while tonnage rose by 5.57 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier.
A breakdown of the results of JNPT's three container terminals shows that APM Terminals handled 990,000 TEU, up 11.6 per cent year on year, while DP World handled 625,000 TEU, up 5.23 per cent. Volumes at the port authority-run JNPCT facility rose by one per cent to 787,000 TEU, thereby losing market share slightly, reported The Maritime Standard of Dubai.
JNPT recently held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new Wardha Dry Port facility, an inland container terminal that will be developed on a 350-acre site in phases. The first stage will include customs clearance facilities, a container freight station, warehousing, cold storage and truck terminals.
