Frankfurt Airport's cargo volume rises 5.4pc in August to 181,102 tonnes

GERMANY's Frankfurt Airport's (FRA) cargo volume in August rose 5.4 per cent year on year to 181,102 tonnes. Year to date, cargo traffic was up 4.8 per cent to 1.5 million tonnes, compared to the first eight months of 2016, according to data from airport owner and manager, Fraport AG.

Results at Fraport's other fully consolidated and equity consolidated airports were mixed, with cargo volumes at Lima Airport in Peru declining by 0.7 per cent year on year in August to 25,655.



In third place with overall volumes for Fraport, China's Xi'an Airport registered cargo volume growth of 20.1 per cent in August, compared to the same month last year, at 21,547 tonnes. Volumes at the airport are up 13.5 per cent year to date, compared to the same eight-month period in 2016, reported New York's Air Cargo World.



Though small in terms of overall volume, Fraport Twin Star airport Burgas in Bulgaria saw a 45.4 per cent y-o-y increase to 4,687 tonnes in August, while volumes at its twin Varna Airport dropped by 16.3 per cent to 10 tonnes.



Germany's Hanover Airport saw cargo volumes decline 21.6 per cent in August to 1,097 tonnes, while volumes at the Ljubjana Airport Slovenia increased 31 per cent over the same month last year to 1,035 tonnes.
