Amazon's new distribution centre in southwest Ohio to offer 1,000 jobs
INTERNET retail giant Amazon is going ahead with a plan to build a distribution centre in southwest Ohio, a project that will create 1,000 jobs, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The internet retailer received approval for state tax incentives last month for the project in Monroe in Warren County, but it had not decided whether to proceed.
Workers at the 1 million-square-foot facility will pick, pack and ship large customer items such as sports equipment, gardening tools and pet food.
"We are excited to continue growing in Ohio, adding 1,000 new jobs to the more than 6,000 Amazonians already working in the state," said Sanjay Shah, Amazon's vice president of North America customer fulfilment.
"The support of local leaders and incredible workforce has been instrumental in our decision to locate the new fulfilment centre in the state, and we are grateful for the support we've received to bring new jobs and investment in Ohio."
It will be the fourth distribution center that Amazon has in Ohio, including one in Etna in Licking County and one in Obetz in central Ohio. The company also recently announced a project in North Randall near Cleveland.
In addition, Amazon has developed three data centres in central Ohio, a sorting centre in Twinsburg in northeast Ohio, wind farms in northwest Ohio and is developing an air-cargo hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
