London Heathrow air cargo jumps 13pc to 139,000 tonnes in August
BRITAIN's biggest airport, London Heathrow, registered a 13 per cent year-on-year increase in cargo traffic in August to 139,000 tonnes - its 13th straight month of record volumes.
In the first eight months of the year, Europe's number four air freight hub handled 1.1 million tonnes of cargo, up 10.3 per cent over the same period in 2016, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Heathrow's fastest growing trading market was Latin America, with cargo volumes surging 30 per cent in August, according to the owner of Heathrow Airport.
North America also performed well with volumes up 13 per cent to nearly 50,000 tonnes as American Airlines, United and Air Canada increased cargo. Strong growth to China, Hong Kong and Singapore also helped East Asia record a 12 per cent cargo uplift.
In the north of England, Manchester airport also reported higher cargo volumes in August, with an increase of 22 per cent to 12,027 tonnes carried.
