Cargo Antonio AN-26 crash lands in eastern Congo near Rwanda
A SERVE AIR CARGO Antonio AN-26, on a flight from Guam to Bunya in the eastern Congo (DRC) with four crew, was climbing out of Guam, near the Rwandan border at 11:30am when one engine (AI-24VT) failed, prompting a return to Guam.
The aircraft touched down at about mid point of the runway and did not stop before the end of the runway then crashing in a rough lava field, reported Salzburg's Aviation Herald.
All crew survived, but the aircraft sustained substantial damage, a broken wing, collapsed nose and a broken starboard landing gear.
Goma Air, a rebrand from Gomair, the latest reincarnation of which is Serve Air, was involved in a double fatality crash in Nepal in May. Goma Air was also on the European banned list, forbidden to fly in EU airspace.
