Higher box volumes drive Ashdod port revenue up to US$173 million
ASHDOD Port Company's first-half container throughput rose 6.6 per cent year on year to 773,476 TEU, while the total volume of general cargo rose 8.3 per cent to 1.09 million tonnes.
A total of 11.4 million tonnes of cargo passed through Ashdod port, an increase of 3.7 per cent compared to the first half of last year, reported London's Container Management.
Ashdod Port Company explained in a statement that the primary increase in cargo is a result of growth in the scope of containers, metal and mortar imports, as well as iron and scrap exports.
Container and general cargo volume growth helped push first-half revenue up 4.3 per cent year on year to ILS616 million (US$173 million).
