Startup MPC Container Ships buys six more vessels, raising total fleet to 20
NEWCOMER to the ocean liner industry, MPC Container Ships AS has purchased six containerships, including one 2,700-TEU vessel and five with a capacity of 1,300 TEU, from various owners for a total investment of US$57 million.
The additional ships will raise the Oslo-based company's fleet to 20 vessels once the acquisition is finalised in September, reports American Shipper.
"Given current market charter rates, all vessels generate positive operating cash flows," said the company.
MPC Container Ships last took ownership of two 2,834-TEU vessels in June and seven vessels ranging in capacity from 966 TEU to 2,824 TEU in April.Ahrenkiel Steamship manages six of the vessels with a third party managing the rest.
