K+N to run distribution centre for Unicomer in Colon Free Zone
SWISS forwarding giant Kuehne + Nagel has opened a new facility in the Colon Free Zone, close to the Panama Canal, to receive, store and distribute brands of Unicomer Group that operates 1,000 stores in 24 countries.
Kuehne + Nagel said in a statement that the operation at the new warehouse represents an important step for the company to expand its contract logistics services in Central America.
Due to its access to diverse maritime routes and frequency of transport, the Colon Free Zone helps K+N customers facilitate access to new markets.
"The warehouse location will also favour our business and competitiveness by its proximity to our main markets in Latin America, ensuring fast and cost-efficient delivery to our stores," said Unicomer trade manager Mabel Pacheco.
Said Kuehne + Nagel Central America and Caribbean chief Ricardo Rocha: "With the new facility in the Colon Free Zone, we are able to strengthen our position in a key market such as Panama, being an important hub for South and Central America as well as the Caribbean, by leveraging our end-to-end solutions offering."
