DB Schenker's H1 air freight volume up 11.4pc to 613,000 tonnes

DB Schenker handled 613,000 tonnes of air freight in the first half of the year, an increase of 11.4 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier.

Ocean freight at the German-owned forwarder rose 8.9 per cent to 1.06 million TEU in H1 2017, while contract logistics boosted its currency-adjusted revenues by 5.7 per cent to EUR1.3 billion (US$1.533 billion), reported London's Air Cargo News.

Overall, the holding company Deutsche Bahn AG, which includes the German rail operator as well as overseas passenger transport subsidiaries, increased its revenue by 5.1 per cent year on year to EUR21.1 billion, while EBIT earnings rose 17 per cent to EUR1.2 billion.

Growth during the period was ahead of Panalpina, which registered an air cargo increase of seven per cent, but lags behind the 18 per cent improvement at Kuhne+Nagel.
