Swissport Cargo opens new automated warehouse at Chicago O'Hare airport
SWISSPORT Cargo USA" target="_blank" class="external noeffect">SWISSPORT Cargo USA has opened a new 138,000 sq ft warehouse at the north cargo area of Chicago O'Hare airport" target="_blank" class="external noeffect">Chicago O'Hare airport. The facility features the first automated material handling system in the region.
The system can accommodate 120 10-ft ULDs at a time using pallet platforms and electric ULD movers. The warehouse is also equipped with two cold storage areas: two-eight degrees Celsius and 18-25 degrees Celsius, both of which meet the requirements of IATA CEIV.
The facility also has 35 truck docks and adjacent aircraft parking with in-ground fuelling and power units to speed up the overall handling time of the aircraft on the ground, reported London's Air Cargo News.
In addition, the material handling system is integrated with the back ramp where ULD's are directly stored into the system or delivered to the customer to speed up loading from aircraft to truck.
Chief executive Swissport USA, Dany Nasr, was quoted as saying: "This new investment highlights our commitment towards our customers' needs. We raised the bar to become the new operation standard of Swissport Cargo in the US. This is the first of many steps as we are committed to further invest in our people, facilities and equipment."
