China State Shipbuilding Corp bags US$17.7m in state subsidies
STATE-OWNED China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) has been awarded CNY117.59 million (US$17.71 million) in government subsidies in the first half of the year, including a subsidy of CNY6.85 million under a demonstration project for a 18,000-TEU containership.
Shanghai-listed CSSC said that the biggest share of the total subsidies received amounted to CNY84.5 million under a research and development (R&D) project for constructing large oil tankers, undertaken by the research unit of its subsidiary Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), reported Seatrade Maritime News of Colchester, UK.
Other projects that received subsidies included engineering works on a self-elevating drilling rig, ultra-large iron ore carrier, robotics and automation, R&D on fuel saving and emissions reduction systems, and development works on the construction of 20,000-TEU containership.
