United quarterly profit up 39pc to US$818 million as sales increase 6.4pc
UNITED Airlines has posted a second quarter profit increase of 39 per cent year on year to US$818 million, drawn on revenues of $10 million, up 6.4 per cent.
The airline saw cargo revenues increase by 22.1 per cent year on year during the second quarter while traffic was up 21.9 per cent to 828 million cargo ton miles.
This is the third consecutive quarter in which United experienced rising cargo demand and higher revenues, reported London's Air Cargo News.
United also saw its revenues per cargo ton mile rise 0.2 per cent to 30.68 cents, mirroring improvements in air freight rates on key trade lanes.
Results still lag behind 2015 levels, though the carrier posted its first year-on-year improvement since the first quarter of 2015 when the industry benefited a US west coast dock strike.
In the second quarter, the airline took delivery of six Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, one used Airbus A319 aircraft and ten Embraer E175 aircraft.
New international services were announced between Newark/New York and Buenos Aires, Argentina, and between Los Angeles and Singapore and added a second daily flight between Newark/New York and Bogota, Colombia.
United also added additional services and upgauged aircraft between San Francisco and 18 destinations, including Seattle, Philadelphia and Portland, Oregon and increased services to Hawaii on 11 routes.
