Riga H1 up 14pc to 208,100 TEU, but overall cargo falls 1.4pc
LATVIA's Riga Freeport Administration reported that in the first half of the year container cargo increased 14 per cent year on year to 208,100 TEU, the highest six-month result in the port's history.
But overall cargo throughput in the first six months of 2017 was down 4.1 per cent year on year to 17.51 million tonnes, reported Riga's Baltic Course.
Bulk cargo accounted for 10.83 million tonnes, up 4.5 per cent year on year. General cargo volume was up 9.4 per cent to 3.36 million tons, but reloading of liquid bulk fell 31.3 per cent to 3.31 million tonnes.
Some 6.4 million tons of coal were handled by the port, up 7.4 per cent on 2016. Oil products made up 18.7 per cent of all cargo, followed by containers at 11.8 per cent, timber at 7.9 per cent and chemicals at 7.3 per cent.
