Oakland's June volume up 5.1pc - beats June 2006 all time record

THE Port of Oakland handled 80,253 laden TEU import containers in June, up 5.1 per cent year on year and breaking the monthly record of 78,326 TEU set in June 2006, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

"As we near autumn, retailers begin stocking up for the holidays," said Port of Oakland Maritime Director John Driscoll.

"Healthy volumes now might be a preview of what we can expect for peak season," he said.

Total volume includes imports, exports and empty containers. Export volume rose 2.4 per cent year on year.
