Singapore scrapping meeting to discuss EU rule's impact on HK Convention
THE 5th Ship Recycling Congress at M Hotel, 81 Anson Road, Singapore on Wednesday and Thursday July 26 and 27 will focus on European policies that restrict the role Asian shipbreakers can plan in scrapping ships.
At issue is a conflict between Asian shipbreaking yards adhering to the Hong Kong Convention on the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships and the European Union's Ship Recycling Regulation that allows European-flagged to only be recycled at EU-approved yards.
Other key topics on the agenda will be the current industry boom, keeping up with scrapping demands and the right choice of yard.
There will also be updates on regional shipbreaking yards and rising performance standards within Asian yards.
