Two Hong Kong-flagged vessels collided in the English Channel
AN oil tanker, the Seafrontier, with 38,000 tonnes of petrol on board and a 220-metre cargo ship collided in water between France and Britain last weekend. No one was injured and there were no oil spills, according to authorities.
The oil tanker was on its way to Guatemala when it was involved in a collision with the Huayan Endeavor, which was on its way from the Netherlands to Nigeria. Both ships are Hong Kong-flagged and were carrying 49 crew members from China and India at the time, The Independent of UK reported.
The collision happened in the early hours in the Dover Strait, around 15 miles from Dover and 20 miles from Dunkirk.
"Although both vessels have been damaged, there is no water ingress and no pollution," a spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.
An investigation into the incident, which came during favourable conditions with moderate winds and calm seas, is underway.
