Air freight rates are expected to rebound in June: Drewry
THE average all-in air freight buy rate across 21 major east-west trade lanes rose by 5.3 per cent in May, compared to the same month last year, to reach US$2.78 per kilogramme, according to consultant Drewry's Sea & Air Shipper Insight report.
However, prices were lower than in April when airlines attained a rate of $2.87 per kg due to declines on the transpacific, reported London's Air Cargo News, citing Drewry's figures.
Looking ahead, the consultant forecasts an improvement in June: "Drewry's east-west Airfreight Price Index fell by 3.1 per cent month-on-month in May due to lower rates on Asia to North America.
"The index is now about 5.3 per cent above the same month last year, indicating strong underlying market fundamentals."
