Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding builds China's first 20,110-TEUer
CHINA's Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has built the country's largest containership, the 20,110 TEU Cosco Shipping Taurus.
The ship was built for Cosco Shipping Corporation, and features a total length of 400 metres, 58.6 metres in width and has a design speed of 22.5 knots.
In September 2015, Cosco placed a US$1.5 billion order for the construction of eleven 19,000 TEU container ships from a variety of Chinese shipbuilders.
Under the deal, three of the box ships are being constructed by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, six by Dalian Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) and Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS), and the remaining two ships are being built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry.
