Miami welcomes biggest ship to call with its 50 feet alongside
THE Port of Miami docked its biggest ship ever with the arrival the 10,081-TEU Maersk Shanghai, an event hailed as a "milestone" by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, reports American Shipper.
The ship is part of the 2M Alliance's TP11/America service that rotates through Xiamen, Kaoshiung, Shenzhen-Shekou, Shenzhen-Yantian, Cai Mep, Singapore, Salalah, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Miami, Freeport Bahamas, New York, Singapore and back to Xiamen.
"We welcome the Maersk Shanghai to PortMiami. Its arrival is a milestone for PortMiami as it also makes history by being the largest cargo containership ever to visit a Florida port," said Mayor Gimenez.
Said PortMiami CEO Juan Kuryla: 'the port has made tremendous investments in infrastructure improvements. Today we're the only full-service port on the east coast of the US south of Virginia with a channel depth of 50 feet."
