Brussels Airport May cargo rises 8.1pc after Muslim terror attack
AIR freight volumes through Brussels Airport in May increased 8.1 per cent to 40,836 tons against throughput two years ago in 2015, reports London's Air Cargo News.
Compared to May last year, when aircraft operations were still affected by the March 2016 terrorist attack on the passenger terminal, shows 2017 freight volumes up by 8.5 per cent.
The airport said that the May 2017 full-cargo segment has "risen sharply" by 17.2 per cent and express services by 16.6 per cent against the same month in 2015.
"Belly cargo in May 2017 decreased by 11.4 per cent against May 2015. This was due to the departure of Jet Airways in March 2016 and the subsequent decrease in the number of long-haul flights."
Elsewhere in Europe, the UK's Manchester Airport reported a May 2017 boost at 10,541 tonnes handled - an increase of 13 per cent on May 2016.
"It equates to a 12 per cent year-on-year increase with the annual rolling tonnage now at 117,727 tonnes," said a spokesman.
