Long Beach up 1.2pc to 648,287 TEU in best May ever, tops all but Sept '15
THE Port of Long Beach container throughput increased 1.2 per cent year on year to 648,287 TEU in May, the second highest May posting since 2006, according to the port authority.
May import boxes increased 1.8 per cent year on year to 336,594 TEU while export containers were down 14.3 per cent to 118,786 TEU. Empties were up 12.6 per cent to 192,908 TEU.
Year to date, Long Beach cargo volume was up 4.1 per cent. Overall, May was the best month since September 2015.
The National Retail Federation has forecast steady growth in imports during the next few months as the peak season begins.
