UPS to open package processing hub in Arizona for e-commerce
UPS is investing US$180 million to open a new package processing hub in Goodyear, Arizona, to tap the explosion in popularity of shopping online.
The new facility will enable the integrator to add more cities to its weekend delivery service that has since last month provided ground delivery and pickup services on Saturdays in Mesa, Arizona. The company now plans to expand the service to Phoenix from June 3, reported New York's Air Cargo World.
Upon completion in late 2019, the new facility will have 970,000 square feet of "advanced operational technologies and sortation equipment under one roof."
The company hopes to have a portion of the building in operation in time for this year's holiday season when volumes surge.
"The decision by UPS to establish a regional operations centre in greater Phoenix is indicative of the growing e-commerce industry," added president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Chris Camacho.
