Rising demand prompts Sky Gates Cargo to add B747-400F to fleet
START UP Russian airline, Sky Gates Cargo Airlines is adding a second Boeing 747-400 freighter to its fleet, to meet rising demand for airlift on Russia, Europe and Far East routes.
Originally part of Cathay Pacific's fleet and currently operated by Silk Way West, which is a partner airline of Sky Gates, the freighter is expected to be delivered in June, reported New York's Air Cargo World.
"After having received the second aircraft, the planning for a third 400F will start," senior vice president of Sky Gates, Nidjat Babayev, was quoted as saying. "We are motivated by the support of our customers and we are convinced of the huge potential the Russian air cargo market," he said, adding that Sky Gates already had commitments for the second aircraft.
Sky Gates Cargo Airlines has based its European hub in Maastricht, from where the carrier serves Moscow and Novosibirsk on a scheduled basis en-route to and from the Far East.
