Forwarders accepting an automated future accoding to new poll

FREIGHT forwarders appear to be accepting automated processes and are abandoning manual systems for digital ways, according to a Hong Kong survey.

"Successful forwarders are looking for the service edge over their rivals," said Freightos CEO Zvi Schreiber, who's company conducted the survey."Freight digitalisation is inevitable. Prudent forwarders see this and are preparing for it, looking at what benefits it will bring," he said.

Conducted by a Hong Kong online booking portal, Freightos found that although forwarding is still largely manual 74 per cent of forwarders believe they will be mostly automated in years to come, rather like personal banking life of today.

Freightos surveyed nearly 70 freight forwarders, followed by in-depth interviews with senior executives at enterprise and mid-size freight forwarders.

The key points of the survey found that by "service differentiation" forwarders mean customer service (77 per cent) seamless operations (63 per cent), not scope of actual services.

"However, this won't necessarily be personal touch. Today 77 per cent agree that personal touch is critical but believe that will decrease to 54 per cent by 2022," said the company statement.

Said Mr Schreiber: "Those forwarders intent on providing a good service have a lot to gain from digitalisation. Far from the threat it was once perceived to be, it may in fact be their best bet for future proofing their business," said Mr Schreiber.
